- WHY CHOOSE US -

PROFESSIONAL SERVICES

VC Lawyers is a law firm focused on achieving pragmatic, efficient and commercial outcomes for its clients.

Our core belief is that our success in providing a legal service is measured by the positive impact we have on you, your relationship with others and your business. Our advice is practical, direct and in plain English.

We are a boutique firm offering a rare personal touch and responsiveness seldom found in larger and more impersonal legal offices whilst providing you with a specialised knowledge and expertise in the areas of law we provide.

To date our clients have included prominent Australian companies, lending institutions, governmental organisations, minority and community groups, associations and individuals.

Our extensive experience has taught us to continually adapt in order to meet our clients’ need whilst retaining our honest and down to earth approach. We appreciate that in today’s competitive environment an added service is required for both you and our own business to excel. This is how we believe strong relationships are fostered and maintained. It is with our integrity, honesty and hardworking approach that ensures our highest standards of performance.

Our belief is that each client has its own needs, objectives and concerns. Rather than provide a “one-size fits all” approach we are committed to understanding you and tackling your issue to tailor it to your needs.

We appreciate that all matters and disputes may be dealt with in a different way and which may result in a more cost effective and less adversarial outcome. In this regard, our firm’s principal is also an accredited mediator who is able to provide you, the client, with specialised mediation services as an alternate dispute resolution mechanism as opposed to the more costly litigation court process, if your needs require. We acknowledge, however, that sometimes the court process may be inevitable, in which case our firm is well equipped to strongly represent your interests.

Being a boutique legal firm ultimately saves you the cost of a larger law firm’s huge overheads whilst not compromising on superior quality of work, expertise and professional service.

WILLS, PROBATE, ESTATE PLANNING FAMILYPROVISION ACT CLAIMS

Proper estate planning, is more than simply making a Will, though this is an integral part of it.

Our aim at VC Lawyers is to provide you with outcomes that allow you to ultimately protect or transfer your family assets in a manner that is tax effective, and which avoids the trauma and cost of litigation that may accompany the death of a loved one.

When should I consider estate planning?

Estate planning should be regularly evaluated as a person’s assets and interests will constantly change throughout their lives. Whenever a significant event occurs, a person’s estate must be reviewed and a new Will made if required.

Examples of events that may trigger a change to your estate planning are:

  • Marriage or divorce
  • Acquisition of a new major asset
  • Starting up or finishing of a business
  • Acquisition of a superannuation or life policy
  • Children marry spouses who are thought to be undesirable
  • Marriage of children appears shaky
  • Insolvency is imminent
  • Tax laws are changed
  • A discretionary trust is established

Our services in this area include:

  • Drafting well planned Wills
  • Establishment of trusts
  • Advice on risk management and asset protection techniques designed to reduce the negative impacts of divorce, bankruptcy or death
  • Advice on asset transfer to minimise the impact of capital gains or income tax
  • Probate applications and administration of estates
  • Powers of attorney (both enduring and medical powers of attorney)
  • Executorial and trustee services

NOTARY PUBLIC SERVICES

A Public Notary is a government appointed law officer authorised to perform certain notary services, including drawing, witnessing, certifying, and verifying international documents required for use overseas.

Legal documents notarised by a public notary often require Apostille or Authentication Certificates which validates the seal and signature of the public notary notarising a document.

A Public Notary “protests” bills of exchange (usually cheques or promissory notes). He does so by drawing up a formal Statement on behalf of a creditor under his seal and signature, declaring that a debtor has refused to accept or honour a bill of exchange on its presentation for payment.

Public Notaries also administer oaths in respect of affidavits and statutory declarations for use within Australia and perform the function of a Ship’s Protest.

MEDIATION & DISPUTE RESOLUTION

As the costs of litigation continue to increase, VC Lawyers offers a unique service in mediation as an alternative to expensive and lengthy court hearings.

Mediation is a process which is aimed at reaching a voluntary agreement between disputing parties, and is often the best way of salvaging relationships, both business and personal.

The mediator does not act as a judge to decide how the parties should resolve their dispute, but rather acts as a facilitator for effective communication and negotiation. At the end of the process, any agreement which is reached by the parties is binding.

Our internationally accredited mediator will be able to assist you and those you are in conflict with to:

  • Promote understanding of interests, needs and motivations
  • Resolve differences and reach a satisfactory agreement for all parties
  • Enter or return to a viable business relationship
  • Return promptly to their core business responsibilities
  • Where possible, avoid costly litigation and ongoing disputes

We will ensure that the client retains control of the mediation process and is instrumental in deciding the outcome.

VC Lawyers offers mediation services in a broad range of areas including:

  • Employment and industrial relations
  • Property
  • Estates and wills
  • Corporate and commercial
